The John Crane Type 21 is a general-purpose single elastomer-bellows mechanical seal, long an OEM standard for centrifugal, rotary and turbine pumps, compressors, chillers and other rotary shaft equipment, and common in wastewater, potable water and HVAC. Shaft diameters 0.250 to 4 in (6.35 to 102 mm), pressure to 150 psi(g) (10 bar), temperature -40 to 400 F (-40 to 205 C) depending on materials, rubbing speed to 2,500 fpm (13 m/s) depending on configuration and shaft size.
